55 gal salt water, which filter size tank do I need ?!?!?

I bought a 55 gal tank for sea fish salt the guy at the store sold me a Millennium 3000 Wet Dry Multi Filter 280 GPH that the box says its for a 60 gallon tank. But when I went to another store to see some fish for after the tank cycles the lady told me that he wasn't told not nearly big enough for I need a min of 500 gallons per hour to operate the reservoir. Does anyone know if my current system of filtering is OK to start with? If please someone help me before starting to kill the fish here in a few months!

I used the millennium 3000 filters and they are really not enough (at least by themselves for a marine aquarium of your waist). Adding another filter (like an internal filter that is similar to a head power, but has a sponge filter inside) as well as living stones help. Also GPH is not the only problem, you need a filter that provides a variety of capacities as well as an organic dry and moist (which works best with live rock that crumbles with bio balls), canister (although they can be nitrate factories if not properly supported). A filter mud bio filter that combines the method of Berlin live rock is also a good filtration system. Even the humble sponge filter works very well in the system sump or the tank itself (probably the most under-rated filter out there). Finally, you must consider other aspects that keep a tank healthy as Redox Potential.
